Qatar Chamber hosts FGCC Chambers’ Executive Committee meeting
Qatar Chamber supports the efforts to achieve integration and boost cooperation among chambers of GCC States for the benefit of Gulf economy, and this stems from Qatar’s support for Gulf joint action to achieve economic integration between GCC states, Qatar Chamber General Manager Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi has said.
He said this as Qatar Chamber hosted the 50th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Federation of the Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers (FGCCC) with the participants including chief executives and directors of unions and chambers of GCC States.
The meeting held on Thursday, October 28, at the Sheraton Hotel was chaired by Qatar Chamber General Manager Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi. FGCCC Secretary-General Dr. Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mishari was among those who attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Saleh Al Sharqi said the meeting would achieve its desirable objectives that are derived from the Committee’s main objectives, foremost of which is the activation of the Committee’s role in the FGCCC General Secretariat work program.
Dr. Al Mashari thanked Qatar Chamber for hosting the meeting and the generous hospitality.
The meeting endorsed the minutes of the 49th meeting and reviewed the recommendations of the 49th meeting of the committee held on March 1st, 2021, and a proposal submitted by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the activation of sectorial committees among the member states.
It also reviewed a feasible study and expected expenses of the FGCCC’s new headquarters and a draft work program of the FGCCC General Secretariat and the estimated budget for the year 2022.
The Committee also discussed the draft agenda of the 56th meeting of the Federation and the 51st meeting of the Executive Committee. It also was agreed on recommendations related to these topics in order to be raised to the FGCCC Council.
The committee members also agreed that the 51st meeting of the Executive Committee will be held on Feb. 17, 2022, in Al Khobar, KSA.
The executive committee of the FGCCC consists of directors and executives of members unions and chambers of the GCC states. FGCCC was established in 1979 with the primary objective of supporting the six GCC national chamber members.
Meanwhile, speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Qatar Chamber General Manager Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi stressed the importance of holding this meeting, especially since it was the first meeting to be held in attendance after the COVID-19 crisis.
He explained that the meeting of the Executive Committee would contribute to enhancing cooperation and understanding between the Gulf chambers, by presenting and discussing all the obstacles facing the private sector and ways to achieve economic integration among the GCC states.
Al Sharqi said the importance of this meeting lies in the fact that it reviews the activities and events that will be implemented and worked on by the Gulf chambers during the next stage, and the status of Gulf companies in other Gulf countries.
He pointed out that the issue of food security in the GCC countries took center stage on the FGCCC priorities, as well as ways to facilitate economic movement between the GCC countries.
In remarks, FGCCC Secretary-General Dr. Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mishari underlined the importance of holding this meeting to address all obstacles in pursuit of economic integration among the GCC states, in line with the GCC leaders’ aspiration.
He referred to the FGCCC vital and important role during the COVID-19 spread by issuing reports related to the impact of the pandemic on the economy and ways to overcome all the obstacles.
Dr. Al Mishari stressed the need to unify the positions between the chambers and FGCCC to reach the desired results on all outstanding issues.
