Qatar University opens first dental simulation laboratory in Qatar

A new Dental Simulation Laboratory Qatar University’s (QU) College of Dental Medicine will educate the male and female students about the basics of clinical dentistry before they practice clinical practice on real patients.

The lab was inaugurated in the presence of the President of the University, Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, Dr. Asma Al-Thani, the Vice President for Health and Medical Sciences, Dr. Khaled Al-Khater, the Vice President for Administration and Financial Affairs, and Dr.Omar Al-Ansari, Vice President for Academic Affairs Office, and the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Mandeep, said a Press note from QU.

Dougal, where the President, Vice Presidents and a number of faculty members and heads of departments toured the newly established College of Dental including the modern pre-clinical laboratory, with the aim of spreading awareness about the College and its facilities/laboratories and to show students the support provided by the University as well as ensuring higher education quality is served by high standard facilities.

The lab aims to educate male and female students about the basics of clinical dentistry before they practice clinical practice on real patients.

This will also facilitate their smooth transition from theoretical learning to clinical application by practicing and improving their own techniques within the safety and security standards of the lab where dental students will have the opportunity to practice their dental skills using simulations and equipment they will use in real life when they treat patients.

The lab provides a highly technologically advanced environment that is digital; so that they can be trained in digital dentistry, the future of dental health care.

On this occasion, Dr. Mandeep Duggal, said, “Three years ago, dental education was a dream, and today it has become a reality in the State of Qatar. The College of Dentistry will provide the country’s future-ready dental practitioners to meet the oral health needs of the population”.

The College of Dentistry is the first national college of dentistry in Qatar, where the number of first-year students: 70 male and female 62% of whom are Qatari, second-year students 22, 50% of whom are Qatari, and third-year students: 15 male and female 53% are Qatari. The curriculum is based on a 6-year horizontal and vertically integrated program including field training where planning accreditation follows – Scheme accreditation from the Australian Dental Council upon graduation of the first batch.
